Subject: Reduce beach litter with a BinForGreenSeas

Dear [Councillor name],

I am writing to you as I am concerned about the issue of marine litter.

During my regular walks along the beach at [insert your local area], it’s not unusual to see it littered with empty plastic bottles, take away boxes and other packaging, despite rubbish bins being available.

I want to draw your attention to the BinForGreenSeas. This initiative is run by the charity, GreenSeas Trust. The big, bold and unmissable, lifebuoy shaped recycling bin for plastics has a tagline - Throw Marine Life a Lifeline. The graphics on the bin face shows the connection between marine plastic litter and the effect of microplastics on marine life and human health.

Comments by councils where the bin is installed have been very positive. They include Blackpool, Portishead, Bognor Regis and Canary Wharf. The bins have made a quantifiable difference and helped to reduce the costs for beach rubbish clearance.

I would like to ask you to support the reduction of littering by contacting GreenSeas Trust to discuss installing a bin at [insert your local area].

Thank you so much for your time and I look forward to receiving a response.

Yours sincerely,

[Your full name]
